‘Awesome’ Union Campaign Lifts Ohio Write-In Candidate to Huge Win

In what is likely a record-breaking performance by a write-in candidate, former UAW member Charlie Wilson won the Democratic primary May 2 fo r Ohio’s 6th Congressional District with 67 percent of the vote in a three-way race.

Nearly 45,000 voters took the time to write Wilson’s name on the ballot from which he was missing because of a technicality.

Working families and their unions in the southeastern Ohio district mounted a workplace and grassroots campaign for Wilson that more than overcame the $200,000 negative barrage the National Republican Congressional Committee threw at Wilson because they were hoping to face a ...
